Good evening Families!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
Our class has been working on positional words. Their favorite activity around that topic was the amazing obstacle course Miss Vinnie created for them last Friday! We went in, out, over, under, up, down, around and through her many props and we had a wonderful time!
Tomorrow during small groups we will have our first fire drill, begin working on sorting and classifying by color and shape, and do “partner painting” with yellow and blue. (One child uses yellow paint to finger paint and the other uses blue on the same large piece of paper. They will discover that it makes green but, shhhh … don’t tell them!)
Wednesday during small groups we will string cereal necklaces. This is a fun activity which helps to build the fine motor muscles necessary for writing. We will also play with rhythm and syllables using our names in the funny song “Hickety Pickety Bumble Bee” – and we’ll bring back “BINGO Was His Name-o!” on the felt board. ….By using the props on our felt board, the children are engaging in letter and sound recognition, visual tracking as we move from letter to letter in Bingo’s name, adding and subtracting as we take away letters and add in claps, hearing rhythm and beat, and practicing taking turns (and being patient!) as they wait for their turn to flip over a letter. All that from one song!!
(Another song that the children LOVE is “Adventures in Space.” It is not so much a song as it is a story we act out – pretending we go to outer space and then come back to a hero’s welcome. If they’ve talked about going to space in a space ship, that is why! They really get into it and they are SO cute to watch! It is my favorite thing to do with them.)
Two important reminders for this week:
Wednesday is individual and class picture day. We will not offer any messy art materials that day!
We do not have school this Friday. It is a teacher work day.
I’m looking forward to another fun week!
Warmly, Tess
