Kinderprep Class Curriculum

Valley Parent Preschool’s curriculum is an emergent one, based on a developmental approach to learning. Our program focuses on the whole child and provides opportunities for children to enhance their emotional, social, creative, physical and cognitive growth.  Back to Programs and Tuition

In addition to building on the skills learned in Preschool and Pre-K, the following skills will be woven into the children’s day.

Social/Emotional Experiences

  • Learn to recognize their emotions and learn ways to regulate them showing self- control
  • Learn to recognize emotions in others and develop empathy
  • Be able to share and take turns with others
  • Practice cooperation and negotiation
  • Participate in activities and develop perseverance
  • Develop a positive self-image
  • Learn to work independently and complete tasks

Pre-Math Experiences

  • Count objects to 15+
  • Recognize some numbers
  • Sort and classify
  • Understand and demonstrate more than/less than/equal
  • Review AB and ABC patterns and be introduced to others

Pre-Reading Experiences

  • Identify letters and sounds
  • Be comfortable speaking and expressing ideas in a group by asking questions, retelling stories and role playing
  • Strengthen comprehension; listen to stories and understand what is being read
  • Make predictions about a story and ask and answer questions
  • Hear and make rhymes

Fine Motor & Pre-Writing Experiences

  • Use proper grip when holding writing implements
  • Continue to develop hand strength by using a wide variety of materials (clay, play dough, tweezers, monkey bars etc.)
  • Use scissors correctly and cut straight and curved lines
  • Weave, lace and bead
  • Handwriting Without Tears developmentally appropriate program to introduce writing: L,F,E,H,T,I,U,C,O,G,S,J,D,B,R,K,A,V,M,N,X,Z,Y
  • Write name correctly in title case and form most of the letters in the alphabet

Large Motor Experiences

  • Develop coordination, strength and agility by using skills such as hopping, , balancing, skipping, climbing, catching and throwing
  • Engage in games and activities that require team work and problem solving

Science Experiences

  • Experience a wide variety of hands-on experiments
  • Use the scientific process to observe and compare, make predictions and test them
  • Develop problem solving skills, collaboration and perseverance
  • Maintain a class garden

Cooking Experiences

  • Learn to follow a recipe and its instructions
  • Practice measuring, pouring, scooping, stirring, sifting, grating and other kitchen skills
  • Be introduced to different kinds of foods and cultures
  • Build cooking vocabulary
  • Maintain a class garden and use the fruits and veggies grown in the kitchen
  • Make a cookbook

Music, Movement, and Creative Experiences

  • Learn a variety of songs including ones with movement and sign language
  • Introduce various instruments and have the opportunity to play them
  • Participate in dramatic play, acting out stories, and writing and preforming a class play
  • Move creatively to different types of music
  • Express themselves through drawings, paintings, dancing, singing and building
  • Build imagination
